Bus Burger
Driving along the old Heinolantie road, in the midst of a forest, you come across a gas station with flashing light signs. In the courtyard stand three yellow school buses with the American flags waving on poles.
“Bus Burger is a small piece of America in the middle of nowhere,” laughs the restaurateur Eeva Laajoki.
The story of Bus Burger dates back 11 years when Laajoki and her husband pondered how a remote gas station could have a new lease of life. The idea of an American Diner-style restaurant fitting into the environment came to mind.
“The first things we got for the restaurant were red, American-style lights, intended to catch the attention of passersby on the quiet road. The plan worked beyond expectations, and soon it became clear that 25 seats were not enough.”
Laajoki traveled to New Orleans to gather new ideas for her restaurant. There, her attention was drawn to yellow school buses. Without much hesitation, Laajoki bought a decommissioned school bus. However, bringing it to Finland was not easy, as the bus was 5 cm too long to fit into a shipping container. The bus had to be driven onto the ship, transported across the sea on the deck, and driven into the restaurant’s yard.
“When we finally got the bus to Finland, we wanted to integrate it into the restaurant space. The bureaucratic battle was tough, but it was worth it, as customers have loved dining in the bus.”
At Bus Burger, you can enjoy authentic, large American-style burger meals. The sauces are made from scratch.
“We don’t use any pre-made products; we want customers to have the opportunity to eat a burger made from additive-free, pure ingredients.”

The Finnish ingredient which gets your creativity flowing?
Our patties are made from fresh minced meat from a nearby farm. Finnish minced meat is a good ingredient because it is not only high-quality but also very versatile in combining different spices and sauces.
A song which sets your kitchen on fire
A Finnish artist Arttu Wiskari “Tässäkö tää oli?” is one I listen to a lot. Wiskari’s songs have funny lyrics and a laid-back feel.
When @Bus Burger, taste...
